Envie d’apprendre à concrétiser (presque) toutes vos idées et devenir un maker ?

Depuis 2017, le Fab Lab ULB forme chaque année plusieurs personnes, de manière intensive, aux outils de fabrication numériques, socle commun des Fab Labs. La formation Fab Academy est distribuée dans 75+ Fab Labs mondiaux et intègre les cours donnés par Neil Gershenfeld, directeur du Center for Bits and Atoms (M.I.T.) et le partage de connaissances d’experts issus des quatres coins du monde.

La Fab Academy se déroulera cette année pour la Belgique au Fab Lab ULB.

La Fab Academy est un programme d’enseignement de 20 semaines donné au sein du réseau des Fab Labs. C’est un programme intense où vous découvrirez les techniques de fabrication numériques. Chaque semaine est consacrée à une technique. Pendant 1 à 2 jours, vous apprendrez la théorie, à la fois lors de la visioconférence de Neil Gershenfeld, et au Fab Lab de l’ULB. Puis, vous mettrez en pratique cette théorie le reste de la semaine et réaliserez l’objectif défini par Neil Gershenfeld. Chaque série d’exercices sera documentée en ligne et revue par des experts techniques de l’ULB ainsi que des mentors du réseau.

Les dernières semaines seront consacrées à la réalisation d’un projet personnel intégrant au moins 5 des techniques apprises au cours du cursus. Vous assurerez sa conception, sa réalisation et sa présentation (portfolio web + vidéo). Vous apprendrez les bases de la gestion de projet : vous construirez un planning et mettrez en place les étapes pour fabriquer et déployer votre projet.

Le certificat de la Fab Academy sera délivré si la production de chaque semaine et le projet final satisfont aux exigences du programme. Chaque semaine, un petit nombre de projets est revu directement par Neil Gershenfeld, qui verra votre travail au moins une fois durant le parcours.

À la fin du programme, vous serez donc capable de prototyper (presque) toutes vos idées et surtout, vous intègrerez la communauté très soudée des Fab Labs mondiaux.

L’ULB : gage de qualité

En plus de l’enseignement de Neil Gershenfeld, une équipe d’experts travaillant au Fab Lab ULB vous accompagne chaque semaine : ils vous apprennent à utiliser les machines, vous accompagnent dans vos projets, revoient et commentent vos réalisations. Ils ont eux-mêmes suivi la Fab Academy et connaissent bien le parcours. Notre équipe encadrante couvre différentes expertises et est, aujourd’hui, mondialement reconnue pour son expertise et la qualité de ses projets.

Le Fab Lab de l’ULB est équipé de toutes les machines nécessaires au parcours Fab Academy. Vous aurez un accès privilégié au site pendant la formation.

Le programme s’adresse à tout le monde : chercheurs, étudiants, curieux, entrepreneurs, personnes en reconversion, bricoleurs… ; quel que soit votre statut ou vos diplômes.

Prérequis

Aucun prérequis ou connaissance n’est nécessaire. Cependant, une certaine aisance avec les outils informatiques vous sera d’une grande aide.

En revanche, la Fab Academy est un enseignement intense qui demande une implication importante pendant les 5 mois de la formation (comptez 20h d’implication par semaine si vous êtes déjà à l’aise avec la modélisation et l’électronique, 30h dans le cas contraire).

Want to learn how to turn (almost) all your ideas into reality and become a maker?

Since 2017, the Fab Lab ULB has been training several people each year, intensively, in digital fabrication tools, the common foundation of Fab Labs.

The Fab Academy training is distributed in 75+ Fab Labs worldwide and integrates courses given by Neil Gershenfeld, director of the Center for Bits and Atoms (M.I.T.) and the sharing of knowledge by experts from all over the world.

The Fab Academy will take place in Belgium in the ULB Fab Lab.

The Fab Academy is a 20-week teaching program given within the Fab Lab network. It’s an intense program where you’ll discover digital manufacturing techniques. Each week is devoted to one technique. For 1 or 2 days you’ll learn the theory, both during Neil Gershenfeld’s video conference, and at the ULB Fab Lab. Then you’ll have the rest of the week to put it into practice and achieve the objective defined by Neil Gershenfeld. Each set of exercises is documented online and reviewed by ULB technical experts and network mentors.

The final weeks are devoted to completing a personal project incorporating at least 5 of the techniques learned during the course. You will be responsible for its design, production and presentation (website + video). You’ll learn the basics of project management: you’ll draw up a schedule and put in place the steps needed to produce and deploy your project.

The certificate of the Fab Academy will be awarded if each week’s production and the final project meet the program’s requirements. Each week a small number of projects are reviewed directly by Neil Gershenfeld, who will see your work at least once during the course.

At the end of the program, you’ll be able to prototype (almost) all your ideas, and above all you’ll be joining the close-knit community of Fab Labs worldwide.

ULB : a guarantee of quality

In addition to Neil Gershenfeld’s teaching, a team of experts working at the Fab Lab ULB will be with you every week: they’ll teach you how to use the machines, support you in your projects, and review and comment on your creations. They’ve been through the Fab Academy themselves and know the course inside out. Our team covers a wide range of expertise and is now recognized worldwide for its expertise and the quality of its projects.

The ULB Fab Lab is equipped with all the machines required for the Fab Academy course. You will have privileged access to the site during the course.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites or knowledge are required. However, a certain ease with computer tools will be a great help.

On the other hand, the Fab Academy is an intense course requiring total commitment over the 5 months of training (expect to be involved 20 hours a week if you’re already comfortable with modeling and electronics, 30 hours if you’re not).
